Matchday 13 of the Regionalliga West saw Borussia Dortmund U23s suffer their second defeat of the season.  Coach Jan Siewert's team lost 2-0 away to newly promoted SV Lippstadt.

It was all looking good for Borussia before the match. The weather was superb, and the team were being cheered on from the stands by a boisterous away support. ''I would like to think everybody for the incredible support we got right until the very last minute,'' said coach Jan Siewert. On the pitch however, things weren't quite going according to plan for the Black and Yellows. The first few minutes saw far too many misplaced passes. The home team were also finding it difficult to get their game going. As such, the opening phase went by with nothing much to report.

In the 37th minute of the match, BVB suffered their first setback. Julian Schwermann was on the receiving end of a heavy tackle and had to leave the field of play injured. Jan Siewert spoke after the game of a ''heavy knee injury.'' Evangelos Pavlidis came on in his place, and was similarly unable to create much in the way of chances in what remained of the first half.

In the second half, Borussia were once more forced into a change. Defender Sören Dieckmann reported circulation problems and was replaced by Marco Hober. Shortly afterwards, SV Lippstadt made the most of their first real opportunity of the match to take the lead in front of a crowd of 2,500 spectators. Kevin Holz pounced on a lapse in concentration in the Dortmund defence to bring the score to 1-0.

After falling behind, BVB had to pull themselves together to find a response, and were able to do so. From the 69th minute onwards, they had their best phase of the match. Kempes Tekiela was played in by Boyamba, but was only able to hit the side netting. Two minutes later, it was Boyamba who had the chance, with his effort missing the target by mere centimetres

In the 77th minute, it was once more a lack of communication in the Dortmund defence that would prove their undoing. After being set up by Exauce Andzouana, Gerrit Kaiser fired the home team to a 2-0 lead. BVB gave it everything they had to get themselves back in the match. Leon Burggraf came on to replace the injured Bockhorn, but he too was unable to force the issue.

In the end, Borussia deserved to leave the pitch as losers. Coach Jan Siewert was in a reflective mood in his post-match analysis of the second defeat of the season. ''Today didn't go as we'd imagined it would. We made a lot of bad decisions, and we made life difficult for ourselves with our messy passing game. You have to give it to Lippstadt, they really did everything they could to disrupt our play.''

The U23s will pick things up next Saturday at 14.00 CET with a home match against SC Verl at the Rote Erde Stadion.
