BVB have won their friendly match during the international break 3-2 (1-0) away to Sportfreunden Lotte. Alcácer, Isak and Toljan got on the scoresheet for Borussia - with Kagawa providing the assists for all three goals.

We may be in the international break, but that doesn't mean the action stops at Borussia Dortmund. Head coach Lucien Favre led his team to play a friendly match away to Sportfreunden Lotte, with the third tier outfit determined to show the Bundesliga leaders what they were capable of. The home side certainly started strongly, creating several goal scoring opportunities in the opening stages: Yildirim had a one-on-one with Borussia goalkeeper Oelschlägel, but the Dortmund man was able to close down the angle and make the save. Two minutes later, a shot at goal from Karweina found the side-netting. Sportfreunde launched their next attack down the right hand side: Oesterhelweg delivered the ball into the box, but Yildirim was unable to connect. Oelschlägel was forced into action several times in these early stages of the match. Lotte were bold in their attacking play and not only were they creating more chances; they were also creating all the most dangerous ones.

It was Philipp who was the first Borussia player to really threaten the opposition goal. The striker took the ball in his stride and fired a shot at goal from 18 metres out, but his effort was directed too centrally and was saved easily by Lotte goalkeeper Kroll (6). In the 17th minute, Borussia's best chance fell to Toljan after he was played in by Götze. He had plenty of time, but sent his effort over the bar. Alcácer then sent a free-kick narrowly wide of the left-hand post from about 20 metres out (25). Nine minutes later, Phillip laid the ball off to Götze, who made his way into the box and forced Kroll into a save at his near post. The rebound fell to Toljan, but he was unable to make the most of it.

Lotte were strong and dynamic in the tackle, while BVB seemed to be somewhat weighed down by their training session earlier in the day. Nonetheless, their quality was beginning to show and it would soon pay dividends: shortly before half-time, Kagawa played a pass upfield, where Alcácer was on hand to finish with aplomb, nutmegging the goalkeeper to make the score 1-0 to the Black and Yellows.

1-0 : 1-2 : and then 3-2 at the end

Lotte started the second half in much the same way they had the first, and it only took a few minutes before they were celebrating an equalising goal to make it 1-1. Neidhard delivered a cross in from the left-hand side which several of his teammates failed to connect with, but the ball fell to Langlitz, who unleashed an unstoppable effort from the right-hand side (49). The next goal scoring opportunity was also in favour for the home side. In the 61st minute, Schmidt was unlucky not to score as his shot drifted just wide of the left-hand post. A minute later, and Lotte's turnaround was complete: Wegkamp got his head to a cross from Reimerink to make the score 2-1 to the home side.

The Black and Yellows were determined to amend the situation, and they responded by putting the opposition under siege in their own half. Kagawa set up Götze with a smart back-heel, but he was unable to beat the substitute goalkeeper Quindt at the near post (69). Two minutes later, the goalkeeper was once more on hand when he denied Alcácer after a cross from Gomez. A chance for Wegkamp would prove to be the only time Lotte were really able to threaten the BVB goal in what remained of the match, but his effort flew wide of the left-hand post (72). Dortmund were finally rewarded for their attacking efforts in the 81st minute: Kagawa played a horizontal pass across the edge of the box, where Isak was on hand to score from a central position with his first touch of the match to make the score 2-2. But Borussia were not done just yet: shortly before the full-time whistle, Kagawa played in Toljan down the left hand-side. He threw off his marker with a feint before firing the ball into the back of the net to secure a 3-2 win for BVB.
