Borussia Dortmund picked up their first win in Leipzig in three attempts, despite being without Marco Reus for the first time this season. The captain missed out after taking a knock in training the day before. BVB dominated the first 30 minutes but Leipzig had had more shots (14-8) by the end.

Second-best record: Borussia Dortmund picked up their 14th win today. Only in the title-winning season of 2010/11 have BVB had a better record after 18 rounds of matches (15 wins and 46 points rather than 45).

Strong starters: The last time BVB lost the first Bundesliga game of a calendar year was in 2004. Since then there have been 10 victories and five stalemates.

Set-piece specialists: Dortmund have more goals from dead-balls than any other team in the division (10).

Hard runners: The Black & Yellows covered over two kilometres more than their hosts (122.4km). Mario Götze covered more ground than any other player (12.7km).

Complete set: Dortmund won in Leipzig for the first time and have now beaten all the current Bundesliga clubs at least once away from home.

Favourite foe: Axel Witsel only has two goals this season and both have come against Leipzig. He put BVB 3-1 up in the 4-1 win in the reverse fixture.

Safe hands: Roman Bürki saved all five shots directed at his goal and helped his side to a clean sheet.

Home defeat: Leipzig suffered their first home defeat of the Bundesliga season in their first home game of the calendar year. They had previously won seven and drawn two in front of their own fans.
