Does a 3-0 home win guarantee you're through? Tottenham fans only need to cast their minds back to 2013, when their return leg against Inter Milan went to extra-time and they only progressed on away goals after a 4-1 second-leg loss, to know that's not the case. The heaviest first-leg defeat BVB have ever overturned was a 2-0 loss to Rangers.

Clean sheets at home this term

Lucien Favre's charges did not concede a single goal at home in the UEFA Champions League group stages this season. The Black & Yellows beat AS Monaco (3-0) and Atlético Madrid (4-0), along with a draw against Club Bruges (0-0). They conceded the fewest goals in the group stages of the competition (two) and kept the most clean sheets (five).

2-0 deficit overturned against Rangers

Borussia Dortmund have reached the next round of UEFA competitions on eight of the previous 16 occasions where they have lost the first leg away. The most recent example came in the 2016/17 campaign against Benfica, when the Black & Yellows lost 1-0 in Portugal before claiming a 4-0 home victory. The biggest first-leg deficit BVB have successfully overturned was against Rangers in the 1999/2000 season, when they lost the first leg 2-0 but went through on penalties. Their only previous 3-0 first-leg loss came in 2013/14 at Real Madrid (2-0 home win in the second leg).

The permutations

If the score after 90 minutes is...
...3-0, there'll be extra-time
...4-0, BVB will be through
...4-1, BVB will be out on away goals

Major scare for Spurs in Milan!

A 3-0 lead, and the knowledge that they have progressed on 16 of the 18 occasions in which they have won the first leg at home, should leave Tottenham feeling pretty confident. It was the third time they have recorded a 3-0 victory in front of their own fans. But they were once given a major scare in 2013: Spurs beat Inter 3-0 at home before losing 4-1 in Milan after extra-time and only progressing on away goals.

8-0 mauling in Cologne

Spurs have lost on six of their previous 12 visits to Germany, winning four and drawing two. Their last defeat on German soil was at the hands of BVB in 2016 (3-0). Furthermore, the London outfit suffered their biggest-ever European defeat in Germany, when they were beaten 8-0 in Cologne in the 1995 Intertoto Cup.

Draw in Barcelona

Mauricio Pochettino's side only picked up two points on the road in Group B this term. They kicked off their away campaign with a 2-1 defeat at Inter Milan, before drawing 2-2 at PSV Eindhoven and 1-1 at Barcelona. The stalemate in Spain, secured at the death, is what saw Spurs through to the knockout stages despite only having three points on the board after their opening three matches. (br)
