The 33-year-old Dane Mike Tullberg has agreed to become the new head coach of the Borussia Dortmund U23s ahead of the 2019/20 season. The tactician, who holds a UEFA A Licence, this week signed a three-year contract with the club until 30 June 2022.

Tullberg was born in 1985 in Hilleröd, not far from the Danish capital Copenhagen in the Hovestaden district. As a player, he came through the youth ranks at capital club AB Kopenhagen before joining Grenaa Idraetsforening.

At the age of 20, the striker joined Danish top-flight club Aarhus GF, whom he left after one and a half years to move to Reggina in Italy. He subsequently enjoyed a spell at Hearts in Scotland before completing a switch to second-tier German team Rot-Weiß Oberhausen in 2009. In May 2012, repeated knee injuries forced him to hang up his boots.

After hanging up his boots, Tullberg embarked upon a coaching career and was already working as the assistant coach at SG Schönebeck by the end of 2012. In the summer of 2013, the Dane returned to Oberhausen, where he was responsible for coaching teams up to U19 level. After four years there, Tullberg returned to his homeland and took over the Aarhus GF U19s. Since last season, he has been working as an assistant coach at Danish top-flight club Vendsyssel FF, whom he will leave in the summer to join BVB.
