The Borussia players were highly critical of themselves after being given "a lesson" (Lucien Favre's words) in Munich. "There was too much wrong with our game", said Manuel Akanji. "We need to analyse this match in great detail", opined Marco Reus. Here follows the initial reaction from Munich.

Lucien Favre: "This 5-0 defeat is difficult to swallow. We were given a lesson. Bayern were much better, a lot faster and they played with pace. We had a great chance on goal early on in the game. It's difficult to say whether the match would have panned out differently with a goal for us. We wanted to create opportunities for runs in deep with Marco up top, but that didn't work unfortunately. We need to concentrate on our upcoming games now. There are still six fixtures remaining. The previous matches were all very tight and very difficult for us. We need to give our best. If we play like we did today, it'll be difficult, that's clear."

Marco Reus: "The way we played today was a disaster. I don't have an explanation for it right now. We didn't exert any pressure. Bayern were much the better team today and you can't do anything but accept that with grace. We need to analyse this match in great detail. Bayern were always going to apply pressure at home. We stood too deep from the outset, meaning the opposition's goal was further away for us, of course. We still had a good chance early on with Mo. We were quite clearly the weaker team today."

Manuel Akanji: "When every corner kick is a chance on goal for your opponents, then you're not going to win here. Too much was missing in the first half, there was too much wrong with our game. Mats Hummels managed to head the ball four times unimpeded. We put too little pressure on the ball and let them play their game. We went into this match to win it. When you play here against Bayern, you have to take your chances, but our performance wasn't good enough for that. The season isn't over yet, but we can't put in any more performances like today's. Then everything really would be over."
