The U23s had no cause for celebration on Easter Sunday. Coach Alen Terzic's charges came away from their match empty-handed after losing 1-0 against SV Lippstadt.

The pre-match scenario:

BVB went into this one in sixth place in the Regionalliga West table and knowing they needed to make amends for their defeat on Tuesday. SV Lippstadt, meanwhile, sat in 11th place with a six-point cushion over the relegation places.

Personnel matters:

BVB boss Alen Terzic made four changes to the starting XI that was beaten by Kaan-Marienborn in midweek, withdrawing Marco Rente, Leon Burggraf, Denzeil Boadu and Jano Baxmann and fielding Luca Kilian, Gianluca Rizzo, Sergio Gomez and Dominik Wanner in their stead.

The first half:

Only 13 seconds had elapsed by the time the visitors from Lippstadt had their first opportunity to open the scoring. Julian Schwermann's loss of possession led to Gerrit Kaiser going clean through on Eric Oelschlägel, but his shot from 15 metres was wayward. There was a mistake at the other end on the six-minute mark when Yannick Langesberg dallied on the ball and was dispossessed by Dominik Wanner, whose shot was turned behind for a corner-kick.

Just when BVB looked to have slowed the game down a notch or two, SV Lippstadt hit them on the counter in the 26th minute. Valentin Henneke tried to lob Eric Oelschlägel in the BVB goal, but the shot-stopper read the situation and comfortably averted the danger. Oelschlägel was called into action again eight minutes later when he made a save to keep out a Gerrit Kaiser header from around five metres out. The East Westphalians made it difficult in the first period for the Black & Yellows to settle into their usual rhythm and the likes of Boyamba (40) and Gomez (43) were restricted to long-range efforts. At the back BVB largely had Eric Oelschlägel, who made another save from Kaiser in the 45th minute, to thank for keeping their opponents out before the break.

The second half:

Dortmund were completely caught napping at the start of the second half. In fact, only 47 seconds had passed by the time Kevin Holz slotted home from a cross to open the scoring for the visitors. BVB had a chance to hit back immediately three minutes later when Rizzo rose the highest to meet a Gomez cross, but his header thundered against the bar. Alen Terzic made his first personnel change on the hour-mark, with Jano Baxmann replacing left winger Dominik Wanner.

The visitors looked solid in defence and repeatedly posed a threat on the counter-attack. BVB, meanwhile, were made to suffer for the same lack of precision and the same dearth of chances that had been on show against Essen and Kaan-Marienborn. Even with fresh legs on the pitch, the Black & Yellows struggled to create notable opportunities. Lippstadt were focused at the back and successfully defended their narrow lead, meaning Borussia Dortmund have now lost two games in a row and find themselves down in seventh.

BVB boss Alen Terzic's reaction:

"We began the match by making a bad mistake, but at that point we were not made to pay. The goal that they scored was a brilliant move. We were not in control; it was a deserved opening goal at that stage. We currently do not have the momentum on our side. We're very disappointed, that goes without saying."

Outlook:

The U23s will travel to Wuppertal for their next game in hand on Wednesday. Kick-off at the Stadion am Zoo is 19:00 CET.
