It was another crazy derby with lots of talking points. Schalke came from behind to win a league match for the first time since a 2-1 in Bremen in September 2017, while BVB lost after scoring the opener the first time since their 3-2 loss to Leipzig in October 2017.

Home run over: BVB suffered their first home defeat of the current campaign. It was their first under Lucien Favre as well.

Top provider: Jadon Sancho notched his 19th assist of the Bundesliga season. Only two other players − Misimovic (20 in 2008/09) and De Bruyne (21 in 2014/15) of VfL Wolfsburg − have set up more goals in the opening 31 matches of a season since records began.

Prolific on home soil: Axel Witsel's late strike meant that Borussia Dortmund have now scored at least twice in each of their 16 home games this season.

Double dismissal: Marius Wolf received his first red card in 49 Bundesliga appearances, while for Marco Reus it was a first-ever straight red card in the German top flight. BVB have now had 100 players sent off the Bundesliga, but it was the first time they have ever received two straight red cards in one Bundesliga game.
