The Borussia Dortmund Regionalliga team has secured the services of the 19-year-old Icelander Kolbeinn Birgir Finnsson. The player joins the Black & Yellows, where he has penned a three-year deal that runs until June 2022, from the reserves of English outfit Brentford.

Despite his tender age, the central midfielder has already amassed plenty of experience. The junior international left his hometown club of Fylkir Reykjavik to join the U19s of Dutch top-flight side FC Groningen at the start of 2016. He was then promoted to the reserves before a switch to England with Brentford followed in the summer of 2018. He has spent the last two months playing for the club of his youth in Iceland.

Having previously made some convincing performances for Iceland's youth teams, Finnsson has been handed two senior international appearances this year: the youngster has featured in the friendly draws against Sweden (2-2) and Estonia (0-0).

A left-footer who can slot into any role across central midfield, Finnsson becomes the third player from Iceland ever to join BVB after Atli Evaldsson and Magnus Helgi Bergs.
