Speaking to DAZN, Marco Reus said BVB's second win in as many matches had made for a "perfect start", but added: "The match also showed we're still far from achieving the potential we have in this team." Julian Brandt added: "Victories like that do a team good." Here are the initial reactions from Cologne.

Marco Reus: "We wanted to force the tempo in the second period and use the gaps that we hadn't taken advantage of so well in the opening half. Then it would only be a question of time until we created good opportunities. We didn't have a lot of chances today but we took the ones we did have. The coach told us at the break that we needed to be patient, that Cologne wouldn't be able to sustain the tempo over 90 minutes as they'd covered a lot of ground. Then it would only be a question of time before they tired. In hindsight, you could say the plan worked to a tee. But the match also showed we're still far from achieving the potential we have in this team. That said, it's been a perfect start."

Julian Brandt: "The purpose of substitutions is to inject new momentum. Achraf contributed a goal and I tried to bring more tempo to the play. You could see how important it was in the end that we had quality players to bring on. Victories like this do a team good."
