Portugal international Raphael Guerreiro has prematurely extended his contract with Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund until 30 June 2023.

The 25-year-old penned his new deal on Thursday lunchtime following his return from international duty.

“Raphael is an internationally experienced and technically top-class footballer, who can feature in several positions thanks to his versatility and is held in high regard within our squad,” declared BVB sporting director Michael Zorc.

Guerreiro, who grew up in France, joined BVB from FC Lorient in the summer of 2016 and has since made 61 Bundesliga appearances for the Black & Yellows, scoring 10 goals. His original contract was set to expire in the summer of 2020.

“Borussia Dortmund are a wonderful club and one where I – along with my family – have felt very happy for the past three years. I’ll do everything in my power to help our team achieve its objectives. Starting, in an ideal-case scenario, with a home win against Gladbach on Saturday.”
