Shortly after the final whistle, captain and goalscorer Marco Reus and head coach Lucien Favre spoke to TV-channel Sky and at the press conference respectively.

Lucien Favre: "I think it was a deserved victory; a hard-fought victory, that's for sure. Gladbach applied a lot of pressure, especially in the second half. We scored two offside goals and had other good opportunities. Overall, we had more goalscoring chances than Gladbach, although they did apply a lot of pressure at the end. At times, it was really wild. We should've made it 2-0 beforehand. But all in all, I'm very, very satisfied that we won 1-0. Roman Bürki took a knock in a collision with Embolo; we'll need to wait and see what the doctor says."

Marco Reus: "We knew that we would have an incredibly tight schedule and some very good opponents ahead of us over this three-week period. It'll be decisive in determining how things go for us. That's why it was important for us today to take the first step in the direction we want to go in. You could see that the game could've have tipped the other way. But we played with aggression and had good chances. In the end, we're happy to be rewarded with a win."
