EMMA and "leuchte auf" visit Dortmund's AWO kindergarten
Great joy at the AWO family centre "am Bruchheck" in Dortmund. At the end of an exercise and health project led by IKK classic, Borussia Dortmund mascot EMMA visited the children taking part, bringing a BVB gift for everyone with her.
"Making the little ones strong" is the slogan for the project aimed at kindergarten children that was developed by IKK classic especially for facilities in socially disadvantaged areas. The scheme is intended to help counteract the increasing lack of exercise among children of pre-school age. Another focus of the project is providing a healthy diet. In addition to passing on important information to parents, children are introduced to responsible handling of food and kitchen appliances in a playful way. Topics such as the food pyramid and eating cultures of other countries are just as much a part of the course as helping prepare a healthy breakfast and lunch.
The focus of this closing event was on the exercises the children have been doing in over the last few months. The group was always led by a graduate sports scientist to ensure that the targeted and child-oriented course concept was followed at all times. The children proudly presented their progress to their parents and EMMA. "Targeted forms of exercise, movement and orientation games strengthen the muscles and promote the cardiovascular system, as well as training perception, responsiveness and coordination," explained IKK health manager Martin Pichocki, who gave each child a certificate of successful participation in the exercise program.
The AWO family centre "am Bruchheck" is one of six nurseries in Dortmund that participated in both the exercise and nutrition programs. Borussia Dortmund and the BVB Foundation "leuchte auf" ("light up") supported IKK classic by giving the project a black and yellow coat of paint, among other things, by donating BVB items and sending EMMA to visit, which helped motivate the children even more in many cases.
