The draw for the DFB Cup First Round ties, which will be played between 11 and 14 September, will take place on Sunday evening (18:30 CET onwards). These will be the first competitive games of the 2020/21 season in German professional football. Borussia Dortmund will be away from home.

BVB plus all the other licensed clubs are represented in the DFB Cup from the First Round onwards, with a total of 64 teams taking part in the competition. However, the names of all the participants from the respective regional associations have not yet been determined, as many regionals cup competitions that serve as qualifiers for the DFB Cup have not yet been completed due to the corona break. The draw will therefore be carried out with placeholders for the regional association participants that are still to be confirmed.

According to the German Football Federation (DFB), the early date for the draw was chosen "to enable amateur clubs in particular to plan more intensively for the venues". Every potential host of a home game must designate a venue and submit a hygiene concept by mid-August. (cr)
