The Borussia Dortmund women's handball have picked up their first win in their third EHF Champions League game. The Black & Yellows edged out Croatian side Podravka Vegeta 26-25 (15-14) in a thrilling game to notch up their first points of the tournament.

An energetic performance meant that coach André Fuhr's side kept alive their chances of progressing from Group B. Fuhr made the following comments after the match: ''That was a real nail-biter. Winning such a physical game after the end of a packed week shows the quality of our team.'' World Cup winner Inger Smits found the back of the net two minutes from the end to score her fifth goal of the game and secure a 26-25 win for the Black & Yellows, who were playing with one fewer player than their opponents. Alina Grijseels was the top scorer for BVB with seven goals, while Kelly Dulfer and Tina Abdulla grabbed three each.

The win means Dortmund move up from eighth to sixth in the table, meaning they are now on course for qualification for the last 16. The top two teams in each group qualify directly for the quarter finals.
