BVB U23 coach Enrico Maaßen was full of praise for his team on Saturday. The 36-year-old felt his young players had produced a "very good performance" in their 6-0 demolition of RW Ahlen. The Black & Yellows were already 5-0 up at the break thanks to goals from Niklas Dams, Maximilian Hippe, Richmond Tachie and Taylan Duman (two).

There were slightly fewer goals after the break – but there was energy to be conserved with the next match coming up on Wednesday. Maaßen viewed it as a successful weekend and was not surprised by the performance. "We'd trained a lot of things that we implemented on the pitch during the week. You could see how difficult it is to stop us."

SV Lippstadt will be hoping to bring BVB's unbeaten start to an end on Wednesday evening, however. Coach Felix Bechtold's charges currently sit 14th in the table, having taken eight points from their eight matches. SVL were last in action in the Westfalenpokal and beat Vorwärts Wettringen 4-0 to reach the next round. Furthermore, they have won each of their last three meetings with the BVB U23s. The East Westphalians claimed a 2-1 win in Dortmund last term before the season was curtailed, and won both meetings between the teams in the 2018/19 campaign. The Black & Yellows last beat SV Lippstadt back in 2006, with Salvatore Gambino and Marcus Steegmann among the goals that day in a 4-1 victory in the Oberliga Westfalen. Lippstadt's goal back then was scored by a familiar face: Daniel Farke, who coached the Dortmund U23s between 2015 and 2017, found the net to level the scores at 1-1.

Kick-off on Wednesday evening is at 18:00 CET. The venue for the match is the Liebelt-Arena in Lippstadt.
