Borussia Dortmund were clearly the better side in the 157th Ruhr derby. They had 17 shots to Schalke's three, the last of which came in the 34th minute. Here are the match facts.

Superior: Borussia Dortmund had 69% possession and won 57% of their challenges. There was a real gulf between the teams in terms of passing, with BVB completing 90% of their passes compared to S04's 73%.

Favre's best start: Borussia Dortmund have 12 points on the board after five rounds of matches – more than they had at the same stage of both previous seasons under Favre's leadership (11 in 2018/19; 10 in 2019/20).

Solid home form: BVB won for the third time in three home games this season, having previously beaten Mönchengladbach 3-0 and Freiburg 4-0.

Derby first: Mats Hummels scored his first goal in 24 Bundesliga appearances against the Royal Blues, 19 of which have been competitive derbies.

Landmark occasion: Favre marked his 300th game as a Bundesliga coach with his 150th win.

Provider: This was only the second time Raphael Guerreiro has notched two assists in a Bundesliga match. The first time was a 5-1 away victory in Wolfsburg in September 2016.

Scoring run continued: Mats Hummels scored with his first attempt on goal of the game. The 31-year-old has now netted in 13 consecutive seasons. He is the only player to have scored in every Bundesliga campaign since 2008/09.

Historic scoring rate: Erling Haaland scored his 18th goal in 20 Bundesliga games; only Uwe Seeler scored more goals in his first 20 Bundesliga games (19 in the 1963/64 season). Haaland has scored all five goals this term in Dortmund.

Unusual scorer: It was only Manuel Akanji's second goal in 69 Bundesliga games. His only previous goal came in the 7-0 home win against Nuremberg in September 2018. It was the Swiss player's first appearance since his corona infection. His last game was the 4-0 home victory over Freiburg 21 days ago.

Tactical tweak: Lucien Favre reverted to a back four for the first time since the 4-3 defeat in Leverkusen in February 2020.

Back in the BVB goal: Roman Bürki was back in between the sticks for BVB for the first time since Matchday 2. Marwin Hitz has been his replacement in the past four competitive matches (two in the Bundesliga, plus one in the Champions League and Super Cup respectively).
