Two of Borussia Dortmund's youth teams have done their part for good causes in the run-up to Christmas: BVB's U9 donated €170 to the ''Ein Herz für Kinder'' (a heart for children) initiative, while the U14 helped out the ''Kauf ein Teil mehr'' (buy one more item) campaign.

In the campaign, supermarket customers are asked to buy additional items of food which are then donated to a good cause. The U14 Black & Yellow team supported the campaign by handing out flyers in front of the Rewe supermarket on Möllerbrücke in Dortmund on Friday afternoon and collecting the donations - which were made up of non-perishable food items such as pasta, rice, coffee, tea and chocolate - from customers after they left the supermarket. "The boys were so eager to help out before Christmas. I'm proud that everyone came down to get involved. People have been very generous in their donations, it's a success through and through," said coach Marco Lehmann. The donations will be handed over to the Dortmunder Tafel charity this coming Thursday (17 December).

Adesso, BVB's new main youth sponsor, has also called for people to donate food. The company will hand over the donations to the Dortmunder Tafel on the same Thursday. (cr)
