The Borussia Dortmund U23s will catch up on their postponed game against the Borussia Mönchengladbach reserves on Wednesday lunchtime. It will be their final fixture in the first half of the Regionalliga West season. After consulting with the federation and the local authorities, both clubs have agreed at short notice to switch the home advantage. The match should be taking place in Mönchengladbach, but the two teams will now go head to head at Dortmund's training ground instead.

Coach Enrico Maaßen's charges will be aiming for a third win in three games since the start of the year – a result that would take them to within one point of league leaders RW Essen. The 3-0 victory over the 1. FC Cologne reserves last time out prompted huge delight in the Dortmund camp. Once again, this young team remained compact and solid in defence while still doing the business in front of goal at the other end. Effzeh felt the full force of the clinical finishing that coach Maaßen had called for during the winter break. A Steffen Tigges brace plus a goal from 19-year-old Ansgar Knauff sealed the win for the Black & Yellows. It was also another top performance from the Dortmund rearguard, for whom the Cologne game was already their ninth clean sheet.

Their next opponents Mönchengladbach occupy sixth spot in the table. Coach Heiko Vogel's charges are regarded as highly unpleasant opponents and have a reputation for their tactical versatility and hard-running approach. The latest meetings between the teams have ended in stalemate. The Foals are yet to taste victory in 2021, losing 2-0 to SV Rödinghausen last time out.

BVB TV by 1&1 will broadcast the game live from 14:00 CET.
