The BVB U23s' next fixture in the Regionalliga West will again see them travel to the Rhineland. After a successful trip to Bonn on Wednesday, Enrico Maaßen's side are now set to face the Fortuna Düsseldorf U23s on Saturday. Kick-off at the Flinger Broich is scheduled for 14:00 CET.

The Black & Yellows can look back on a more or less perfect week: a home victory over SV Lippstadt at the weekend was followed by an impressive 3-1 road win at Bonner SC. Now BVB have the chance to extend their lead at the top of the table even further. Second-placed RW Essen lost away to bottom side RW Ahlen on Wednesday, meaning Borussia now have a seven-point cushion at the summit. That said, Essen have a game in hand over BVB.

However, Dortmund have every reason to be positive going into the final stretch of the season; Maaßen's side boast the best record in the league in 2021, with 24 points from ten games. There are 11 games remaining in the season, seven of them against teams from the top half of the table. The encounter with Fortuna Düsseldorf on Saturday will mark the end of an intense month which has seen BVB play six games.

Saturday's guests are placed fifth in the table, with an impressive tally of 49 points. Nothing could separate the two sides before Christmas as they played out a 1-1 draw. Düsseldorf are unbeaten in their last six matches, conceding just four goals in the process. Highlights of this run include a comprehensive 3-0 win over RW Essen.

Fortuna legend Oliver Fink has had a big part to play in the team's recent success. The 38-year-old veteran is a cornerstone of coach Nicolas Michaty's system, which is bolstered by the serious attacking threat offered by Steffen Meuer up front.
