Borussia Dortmund have signed goalkeeper Gregor Kobel from fellow Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart ahead of the new season. The 23-year-old, who was recently called up by the Swiss national team after an excellent year with the Swabians, today penned a contract with BVB that runs until 30 June 2026.

Kobel helped promoted outfit Stuttgart finish the season just ended in ninth place in the table. The 1.95m-tall shot-stopper played in 33 of the 34 league matches and showed himself to be a communicative and vociferous leader who consistently performs well on his goal-line, in the penalty area and with the ball at his feet.

“We’re delighted that Gregor Kobel has decided to join Borussia Dortmund. We believe he has great potential. Gregor’s singlemindedness, his ambition and his consistency are remarkable; his goalkeeping profile is a good fit for us,” said BVB sporting director Michael Zorc.

“Borussia Dortmund is one of the biggest and best-known football clubs in the world. A club whose objective is to compete for the league title and the DFB-Pokal, as well as play in the Champions League, every year. It makes me proud to be able to play for BVB. I want to make my contribution to Dortmund’s future successes,” said Kobel, adding: “You can see on the pitch that I’m an emotional guy. Being out on the pitch in front of more than 80,000 fans after the pandemic, in that atmosphere – I’m already looking forward to it now!”
