Borussia Dortmund's Denmark international Thomas Delaney is leaving BVB at his own request to move to Spain to join record Europa League holders FC Sevilla. All parties came to an agreement this Wednesday.

''I'm unbelievably proud to have played for BVB. This club is one of the biggest in the world. I will always miss the atmosphere in Signal Iduna Park. It's a very special place in the world. I only have good things to say about Borussia Dortmund and the people that make up the club. I'm sad to be leaving BVB, but we all part as friends. I really enjoyed the time I spent together with the team, the staff and the fans, and I can say that I always gave one-hundred percent for them. Now I am taking on a new challenge and dedicating myself to new goals," says Thomas Delaney.

The midfielder, who joined the club in July 2018, played a total of 88 matches (four goals, 11 assists) for BVB. He always showed himself to be a physical and hard-working player with an exemplary attitude. The highlight of his BVB career came in May 2021, when he was part of the team that defeated Leipzig 4-1 in Berlin's Olympiastadion to take the DFB-Pokal trophy back to Dortmund.

"Thomas Delaney came to us with the desire to accept the opportunity to join Sevilla and, at the age of 29, to take the step into the Spanish league. He has always given everything for BVB, for his team, for every single teammate. An exemplary professional who leaves his mark here," said Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc. Sebastian Kehl, head of the licensed player division, adds: "Thomas is a worthy Black & Yellow who we will miss not only as a sportsman, but also as a human being. His word carried weight, his charm ensured that he made friends and laid down roots throughout the club. Thomas will always remain part of the BVB family."
