In recognition of their German Championship win last season, the Borussia Dortmund women's handball team were given the honour of writing their names in the Golden Book of the city of Dortmund at a ceremony on Wednesday afternoon.

''We're obviously very happy about this,'' said BVB department head Andreas Heiermann. Under the watchful eyes of mayor Thomas Westphal, the current BVB players who were involved in the club's first league title win last season immortalised themselves in the Golden Book: Yara ten Holte, Tessa van Zijl, Laura van der Heijden, Merel Freriks, Dana Bleckmann, Alina Grijseels, Tina Abdulla and Jennifer Gutiérrez Bermejo. Also in attendance were coach André Fuhr, his staff, the club management and president Dr. Reinhard Rauball.

The only player missing on Wednesday afternoon was Delaila Amega, who is still recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament tear. ''It was a worthy atmosphere. The mayor showed in his speech that he has good knowledge of the Borussia Dortmund women's handball team,'' said Heiermann as he reflected on the ceremony, which couldn't take place until now due to the Covid pandemic.
