Next up for Borussia Dortmund are Sporting Lisbon at home on Tuesday evening (21:00 CET) in the second group game of this season's Champions League campaign. After starting with the 2-1 win against Besiktas in Istanbul, the Black and Yellows are looking for their next victory.

In the 0-1 defeat against Borussia Mönchengladbach last Saturday, coach Marco Rose had to make do without several players due to injury and was especially lacking in terms of attacking options. Erling Haaland and Marco Reus joined Gio Reyna and Julian Brandt on the treatment table. Only three days after the Bundesliga game, BVB will compete in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, so the BVB stars do not have a lot of time to recover from their injuries. "We need to wait and see with Marco and Erling. It is touch-and-go for both of them," said Rose. "Marco was running yesterday. We have to wait for the final training session. Erling is still in a lot of pain. I have a lot of faith in him, but we need to have a look at him."

If Haaland does miss the game, "we will try to find a solution. There are always solutions as a team. We will give it our all tomorrow, even if we have to make do without Erling." In Gladbach, Youssoufa Moukoko and Donyell Malen played upfront. "Donyell Malen has to remain positive and carry on the way he has started. As a striker, you just need one to go in. We have to be patient with him. Hopefully it will work out soon and he will score," said Rose, who can also play Hazard and Reus ("if he is fit") as centre-forwards.

While Reyna is not yet back training with the team, things are looking better for Julian Brandt. "He trained fully yesterday. If it goes well again today, he is an option for tomorrow night," said the BVB head coach.

On Tuesday evening (live on Amazon Prime Video), the reigning Portuguese champions will step on to the pitch at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK. "It says something if you are able to finish above Benfica and Porto. They have good players and a clear structure with and without the ball," said Rose. After seven games this season, Sporting lie third in the table. In the UEFA Champions League, the Portuguese champions suffered a 1-5 home defeat to Ajax.

On Tuesday, BVB are looking to stop a run of eight games in a row, in which they have conceded at least one goal. "We are all responsible for ensuring that we do not concede. We need to be ready to defend together for 90 minutes and we will be successful. We need to start with that tomorrow," central defender Manuel Akanji. His coach added: "Tomorrow evening is the Champions League. Once the anthem starts, it is up to us to get the next three points at home, to send a clear signal to the group and get back on the road to success."

Borussia Dortmund have invited 500 nurses to the game at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK as a thank-you for their services during the pandemic. "We had made it clear at an early stage that we want to thank those who gave so much for us as a society in the fight the Coronavirus," said Hans-Joachim Watzke, Dortmund CEO.
