On Thursday afternoon, the Borussia Dortmund U23s played a friendly match away to the current league leaders in Belgium's top tier, KAS Eupen. The team coached by Stefan Krämer played a few of their regular starters and cruised to a deserved 3-0 (2-0) win.

Contrary to his opposite number, BVB coach Enrico Maaßen, took the opportunity to give one or two second-string players some match practice. Kamal Bafounta, for example, celebrated his return from injury and newcomer Guille Bueno also made his debut appearance for the U23s.

The Belgians played ambitious attacking football and showed why they have picked up 20 points from their first ten matches this season. BVB lacked punch offensively, which can no doubt be attributed to the entirely new team out on the pitch. Three U19 players moved up to join the U23s: Tekin Gencoglu played for around an hour, while Bekir El-Zein and Ayukayoh Mengot each played for 30 minutes.

The U23s' next competitive match is away in Braunschweig on 16 October (14:00 CET).
