Amid frosty temperatures, the BVB women's team managed to reach the semi-finals of the Kreispokal thanks to a 3-0 (1-0) victory against higher-division opponents SV Eintracht Dorstfeld. The Black & Yellows delivered a focused performance in a hard-fought match watched by a crowd of 350 – including Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke.

From the beginning of the game, the Dortmund ladies set up camp in the opposition half. The first good opportunity fell to Kimberly Becker after five minutes, but her shot lacked precision. Vanessa Heim went one better two minutes later, though, beating Eintracht shot-stopper Sabrina Puzicha with a stunning curler that flew into the net! The BVB women slightly lost their way at the BVB Evonik Football Academy after that, and there was little penalty-box action at either end in the period that followed. "We let up a bit in this period and handed Dorstfeld control of the midfield," explained Sulewski. Hannah Goosmann did not pose much of a threat to Puzicha with an effort at goal. Heim then fired a free-kick from a promising position high into the clear nicht sky and then failed to generate enough power behind her shot several minutes later. By this point, the Black & Yellows had re-established their dominance and were pushing for the second goal. But there were no further gilt-edged chances before the break and the half-time whistle sounded with the narrow but deserved lead intact. "We found the right words in the changing room. We knew we needed to be solid in order to deny the opposition any chances," said Sulewski of his half-time team talk.

The coach's words paid dividends: Goosmann had another good opportunity shortly after the restart but missed the target. The match subsequently became rougher and although Dorstfeld showed hardly any attacking intent, they made life difficult for Borussia with their aggression. Ana Zabell met a corner-kick with a header, but Puzicha was on hand and safely gathered the ball. Heim was then played clean through on the 67-minute mark but fired the ball wide of the target. The next opportunity fell to Annika Billig, who had come off the substitutes' bench only seconds earlier, but she was thwarted by the alert Dorstfeld custodian. The Black & Yellows had cause for celebration after 73 minutes however, with Zabell getting the better of the away defence and firing coolly into the corner to make it 2-0. Carolin Kaul then rounded off the scoring with a low shot into the corner to make it 3-0 (89).

In the end, progression through to the next round was highly deserved – an opinion shared by BVB coach Thomas Sulewski, who said: "I have to pay my team a compliment: we threw ourselves into every challenge and ultimately progressed against a higher-division opponent."
