The first team training session of the new season took place on Wednesday. Afterwards, BVB coach Edin Terzic sat down with journalists and fielded their questions.

Edin Terzic on the first session:
"We were on the pitch together for the first time today, but we didn't start today. We've been together since Monday. I've been holding talks for the past month as well. It of course feels good to be getting going again, to be feeling the grass and the ball, and standing in front of the group. It's fun."

…his appointment as head coach:
"After my time in interim charge, I did say that I felt like doing this again one day. But I didn't expect it to happen so quickly. I'd already set my sights on becoming a coach again one day. But what wasn't clear was that it was going to be with Borussia Dortmund in 2022. That happened very quickly for me."

…pre-season:
"As is always the case in pre-season, we first want to lay the foundations. This season poses us very big challenges due to the break in November, and starting in September we'll be back in action every three days. We'll use every day in July and August to prepare. Now it's all about trying things out."

…the spectators at training:
"It felt louder than usual at training. It's a very special day for me, but it was also special for someone else in the group. We're delighted Mateu Morey could be on the pitch with us after all that suffering. He's been in hospital, in the gym, in the treatment room and finally he is back where he belongs: on the pitch. We're extremely happy about that."

…the Borussia Dortmund fans:
"I know the BVB fans very well, but I haven't yet gotten to know them in the role of head coach. I've gotten to know them from the stands and from the bench as an assistant; but we're especially excited to play in front of spectators again. We want to make people happy on a regular basis – and at some point we want to be doing that every three days."

…Peter Hermann:
"Peter is known all over Germany, he is one of the most experienced and best in this business. I've known him for a long time. For me it was important to inspire him with our approach. It is important that he can help us with his experience. We needed that. Peter is at his most comfortable on the pitch, he'll bring a lot to our group."

…the type of football he wants to play:
"We want to see good football; there are quite a few ways to do that. Football is a player's game and we will try to squeeze out the maximum on the pitch together with our coaching staff and perform as well as possible. We want to have the right answer at every moment in the game. That's what we're getting started on today."
