The Borussia Dortmund women suffered a friendly defeat against the Arminia Bielefeld second team, which plays in a higher division. By the end of the 90 minutes, the scoreboard read 4-0 to the Westfalenliga outfit.

The 250 spectators at the EDIMEDIEN-ARENA in Bielefeld witnessed a football match that was high in quality from the outset. The difference in class between Arminia and BVB was visible, with the home team creating some good early chances. The Bielefeld ladies made their quality count for the first time in the 17th minute, when Marie Bärenwaldt fired the DSC women in front. But Borussia did not give up and courageously resisted, with Ana Zabell even coming close to scoring an equaliser in the 17th minute. Her shot sailed agonisingly wide of the Arminia goal, however.

The next opportunity for BVB fell to Marie Grothe immediately after the interval, but then Bielefeld's Kristina Lazic doubled the lead to 2-0 10 minutes later (56). After the Arminia reserves scored a third (81), Ana Zabell had another chance to pull a goal back with a shot from distance but it was not to be. Franovic then added another to complete the 4-0 victory in stoppage time.

Despite suffering a clear defeat on paper, BVB coach Thomas Sulewski took the positives from the match in Bielefeld. "It was a very good friendly against a very good opponent, who mercilessly punished our mistakes and showed us our limitations. A defeat is naturally always frustrating, but we have learned helpful lessons nonetheless."

BVB: Schröer (Scheibe, 46) – Auffenberg (Gerres, 46), Jung, Bergmann (Hentrich, 46), Glänzer (Pörteners, 46), Becker, Rogge-Herper (Grothe, 46), Zabell, Billig (Herbig, 46), Kuhl (Fälker, 46), Kaul (Bedarf, 46)

Goals: 1-0 Bärenwaldt (17), 2-0 Lazic (56), 3-0 Flatemersch (81), 4-0 Franovic (90)

This coming Wednesday, the Borussia Dortmund women's team will head to their training camp in the Kitzbühel Alps. Sulewski's side will continue their preparations in Austria until 14 August.
