BVB have lost their final match of the 2022 ASIA TOUR 2-1 (1-1) to the Vietnam national team. Donyell Malen scored the goal that fired BVB into the lead.

After wins against the Lion City Sailors in Singapore and the Johor Southern Tigers in Malaysia, BVB's third and final friendly of the ASIA TOUR saw them go up against the Vietnam national team in front of over 30,000 spectators in Hanoi. U19 player Samuel Bamba, who had already scored three goals on the tour, made the starting XI for the first time.

Vietnam made a courageous start and launched the first attack of the match in the opening minute – though the final ball could not pick out a recipient. The first chance for Dortmund fell to Donyell Malen, who had been played in by a lovely pass from Antonios Papadopoulos over on the left flank. The forward shot at goal on the turn but goalkeeper Van Hoang Nguyen gathered comfortably (5). Dortmund goalkeeper Alexander Meyer was then on hand to thwart a shot from the home side (9). Having fired wide of the right post in the 10th minute, Malen fired BVB into a 1-0 lead a matter of moments later. Felix Passlack cut the ball back and the Dutchman slotted home from six metres out, the ball striking the inside of the post on its way into the back of the net.

It was a deserved lead for the Black & Yellows. After a stuttering start, BVB had settled into the match and made sure Vietnam no longer had any control. Within the space of several minutes, Bamba failed to convert a header (22), Malen fired narrowly wide (23), Moritz Broschinski could not bring the ball under control a few metres in front of the box (27), and Malen attempted to tee up Göktan Gürpüz (28). The defence intercepted the pass, however. BVB could not extend their advantage and instead the Vietnamese scored an equaliser against the run of play: Meyer was only able to parry a shot into the danger zone, where Tien Linh Nguyen was on hand to level at 1-1 (36). Tien Linh Nguyen had another chance to beat Meyer eight minutes later but was denied by the Dortmund goalkeeper.

The second half – ahead of which BVB coach Edin Terzic brought on eight new faces – started cautiously. It was not until the 57th minute that BVB registered their first shot, though Vietnam's custodian succeeded in thwarting Padadopoulos' attempt at the near post. Goalkeeper Marcel Lotka made a block with his leg to deny Van Toan Nguyen on the hour mark, before then keeping out the follow-up too. Ole Pohlman struck the ball against the post in the same minute, but this time the ball bounced back into play rather than over the line. Lotka was again in the thick of the action four minutes later and made an excellent stop to deny Duc Chinh Ha. At the other end, Justin Njinmah failed with an attempt to lob the opposition goalkeeper (66), Emre Can fired a long-range effort over the frame of the goal (70) and Marco Pasalic hit the side-netting (79). The goal which sealed the 2-1 win came in the 90th minute, when Tuan Hai Pham converted from the spot.

The third friendly fixture marks the end of Borussia Dortmund's 2022 ASIA TOUR. Directly after the game, the team will begin their return journey to Germany.
