After more than three years, a major fan club event was finally held again on Tuesday evening at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK, with numerous Black & Yellow supporters in attendance, not to mention players from the first team. Over 1,200 fans from almost 600 domestic and international fan clubs took part in the New Year's reception.

The last fan-club event of this size to take place at the world's most beautiful stadium was back in December 2019 for a fan-club Christmas party. Due to the World Cup, this winter the Christmas party became a New Year's reception - and proved every bit as popular as it had been before the pandemic. "After a long wait, we are looking forward to tackling 2023 with you by our side every step of the way. The last time we held this event was in 2019, but when I look around me, I can see that the enthusiasm has not diminished at all," said Borussia Dortmund managing director Carsten Cramer in his opening address to all those present.

In attendance were fan-club representatives not just from Germany, but all over the world too. Members of the Black & Yellow faithful from Ireland, China, the USA and Greece assembled together at the hallowed ground in Dortmund. Also in attendance were the entirety of the current Borussia Dortmund first-team squad, the BVB women's team and BVB legends like Dede, Frank Mill, Sigi Held, Teddy de Beer and Lars Ricken.  In addition, various departments were present with information stands, for example the BORUSSEUM, the fan department and the "leuchte auf" foundation.

The programme, which was hosted by Nobby Dickel and Danny Fritz, included interviews with players, an extensive autograph session, a showdown between fans and players at table tennis or foosball and, of course, the traditional Brinkhoff's beer poured by captain Marco Reus, Niklas Süle and co. at the bar. Little surprise then that BVB President Dr. Reinhold Lunow referred to the evening as "one of the best things you can do as a Borussia fan".

The evening wasn't only enjoyed by the fan-club members; the Black & Yellow pros were also in high spirits after three straight Bundesliga wins to start the new year. "It's really nice that it's possible to have this event with the fans again. They're always there to support us in the stadium, so it's good for us to get together in person," said a delighted Mo Dahoud. This coming Saturday, Borussia will be back at Signal Iduna Park to host SC Freiburg. If the atmosphere is  the same as it was at the New Year's reception, then there's every likelihood the result against Sport-Club will be just as good.
