Three BVB players were called up for the German international fixtures against Peru and Belgium (28 March). The Black and Yellow trio all started the first match on Saturday evening. Salih Özcan and Julian Ryerson were also on duty with their respective national teams in the European Championship qualifying campaign.

The first BVB player in action was Salih Özcan with Turkey on Saturday evening. At the start of the European Championship qualifying campaign, Stefan Kuntz's side travelled to Armenia, where Özcan initially took a seat on the bench. The defensive midfielder was brought into the game at the start of the second half with the sides level at 1-1, and helped guide Turkey to a narrow 2-1 victory.

Germany, who will host the competition in 2024, are also in action during the international break. First up was a friendly match against Peru in Mainz on Saturday evening. Germany ran out comfortable 2-0 winners against their South American visitors. The three BVB players called up by national coach Hansi Flick – Nico Schlotterbeck, Emre Can and Marius Wolf – were all in the starting eleven. The latter was making his debut for German senior side and it didn't take long for him to make his mark. Wolf set up Florian Wirtz brilliantly in the 20th minute, but the Leverkusen man failed to find the net. Niclas Füllkrug, on other hand, made no mistake when he got on the end of a superb cross from the BVB midfielder to make it 2-0 on 33 minutes. That would go on to be the final score. While Can was given a rest at half-time, Nico Schlotterbeck was replaced shortly before the end of the game in the 86th minute. Wolf played the full 90 minutes on his debut.

There were no points for the Norwegian national team including BVB full-back Julian Ryerson at the start of their European Championship qualification campaign. Ryerson came into the game after 75 minutes, but could not prevent Norway from falling to a 3-0 defeat against Spain in Malaga in his 16th game for his country.

Tom Rothe could not help the German U19s manage more than a 1-1 draw against Belgium. The 18-year-old BVB left-back was brought on in the dying stages in the qualifier for the U19 European Championship.
