Another three wins to get to Berlin! Borussia Dortmund look to overcome the next obstacle on their way to the DFB Cup final in May 2014 when they face third division 1. FC Saarbrücken on Tuesday night – and the 2012 double winners leave nothing to chance.

Australian Mustafa Amini, who scored for BVB’s reserve side against Saarbrücken in September, could be in the squad for the cup tie.

When Saarbrücken played BVB’s under-23 side in the third division at the end of September, Jürgen Klopp was in the stands to witness the 1-1 draw. The Saarland side was also closely watched in their last three games, and in their last two training sessions ahead of the cup tie the BVB team practiced with the same balls that will be used at the sold-out Ludwigspark on Tuesday. And since the stadium in Saarbrücken does not have undersoil heating, Jürgen Klopp also closely monitored the weather in the last couple of days…

“It’s going to be a fierce battle,“ predicted the BVB coach, adding a warning not to underestimate the opposition. “We had a successful 2011-12 cup campaign because we took every team we played against seriously,” said Klopp in the build-up. “We didn’t just cruise through but had to fight hard.”

With the prize so big, the memories of the cup final in Berlin are still vivid. “We don’t get too many chances to win trophies,” said Klopp. The goal is clear: “We want to get to the final again. It was one of the most extraordinary moments that we’ve ever experienced.”

“Awesome! Full stadium! No/slight chance!“

BVB, due to their long injury list, may not go into the match as the overwhelming favourites any more but they are still expecting to progress to the next round. Klopp said: “When the draw was made, Saarbrücken thought: ’Awesome! Full stadium! No chance!’ Now they think: ‘Awesome! Full stadium! Slight chance!’ Their confidence is growing with every man we don’t have available.”

The BVB players taking the field on Tuesday night have to make sure that that doesn’t happen.
