Mitch Langerak made a surprise start in goal against Hoffenheim on Saturday. In his seventh competitive game between the sticks for BVB, the Australian kept his unbeaten streak alive. He offered his thoughts in a post-game interview.

Mitch, you made a surprise appearance in the starting line-up. When did you learn about it?

I was also surprised when the coach told me on Friday night that I would play. But, of course, I was also very happy about it. I’m always prepared and ready to play, anyway.

What are your thoughts on the game against Hoffenheim?

First of all, it’s of course a shame that we didn’t score a third goal. But I think we showed some great spirit. This team has character, which can be seen from the fact that we managed to come back from 2-0 down.

What is it like for a goalkeeper to have to watch your team from the distance and the ball just wouldn’t go in for the third goal?

It’s not a good feeling, but there’s nothing you can do about it. Especially as a goalkeeper, you have to rely on your team-mates. I think we played a lot better in the second half than we did in the first. We had a lot of clear-cut chances. It’s a shame we didn’t win this game.

Mönchengladbach were also held to a draw at Mainz today. How pleased are you about this result?

Of course it’s good that we stay in third spot. But first and foremost, we have to look at ourselves. If we pick up our points, we don’t need to look at what the other teams are doing.

Next week Borussia host Hertha BSC Berlin for the final game of the first half of the season. What are your expectations?

We need to hit back and win this game to head into the winter break with a positive result. We will give our all at our breathtaking Signal Iduna Park. Therefore I hope that we will put in a good performance and pick up three points.
