Borussia Dortmund may not have played in Braunschweig as well as in the first third of the season, but they fought to a well-deserved win. In an entertaining game, BVB had 20 shots on goal to Braunschweig’s 16, with both of their goals being a product of their ‘magic triangle’: Reus and Lewandowski created, and Aubameyang converted.

Trend reversal: After four games without a win in the Bundesliga, BVB managed to pick up three points for the first time since the end of November 2013 (3-1 win at Mainz).

Good away form: Borussia Dortmund are on a five-game unbeaten run on their travels, winning four of them.

Good comeback: Mats Hummels made a good return from injury. He enjoyed the most touches of the ball (88) and had a tackle success rate of 57 %, with a passing accuracy of more than 90 % in the first half. It was the Germany international’s first game for BVB since 9 November 2013 (2-1 defeat at Wolfsburg). With Hummels in the team, BVB have won 27 points from 11 games, without him only nine from eight games.

Goal-getter: For the third time this campaign, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored at least two goals in a game (two in the 6-2 win against Hamburg, and even three in the 4-0 win at Augsburg). Against Braunschweig, he had two shots on target, and both found the net.

Crucial goals: Aubameyang scored the opening goal for BVB for the fifth time this season (more than any other player in the league), with BVB winning all five games.

Goals/assists: Robert Lewandowski didn’t score a goal against Braunschweig on Friday, but he set up one (his seventh this season). With a combined total of 18 goals and assists, he’s now at the top of this chart.

Maker of goals: Marco Reus created BVB’s second goal on Friday, his eighth assist this season. Only Ribery and Kruse (both nine) have set up more goals in the Bundesliga.

Unlucky with the woodwork: When Henrikh Mkhitaryan hit the post, BVB were denied by the woodwork for the 11th time this season   – only Nuremberg have been more unlucky in this department.

Set-piece problems: BVB have conceded eight of their 23 goals from set pieces.

On equal terms: Borussia won their fourth straight league game against Braunschweig. The two teams now have an equal head-to-head record in the Bundesliga, with both having won 13 games each.

Falling behind: Braunschweig conceded the opening goal for the 13th time this season – more often than any other team. They only managed to salvage a point on one occasion, losing the other 12 matches.
