Sebastian Kehl hailed the team’s display in St Petersburg as “very good.” The Borussia Dortmund skipper identified their pressing game as their key to success.

What’s your verdict on the game?

It was very important that we scored two goals in the opening five minutes as it steered the game in the right direction right from the start. Zenit were rattled and we were able to play our game.

What was the key to success?

With our pressing game, we won back possession, created space and a lot of chances, and eventually scored the goals.

Did you expect a response by Zenit after the break?

It was clear that Zenit would summon a fight-back in the second half as they surely didn’t want to give the game without a fight. But their two goals were very odd and unfortunate for us, and both could have been prevented.

But your response after their goals was also great, wasn’t it?

Yes, we were still always in control of the match. We took our chances and were able to strike back. The momentum St Petersburg had going from their goals was lost immediately. We scored all of our goals at the right time, so we can be very pleased. We played a very good game.
