Kevin Grosskreutz is set to make his comeback for Germany. Borussia Dortmund’s versatile player has been named by Germany coach Joachim Löw in the squad to face Chile on Wednesday. Roman Weidenfeller and Marcel Schmelzer have also been called up.

Marco Reus and Mats Hummels, however, have been left out of the squad this time due to recent injuries and long injury spells, respectively, and will stay in Dortmund to work on their match fitness. Sven Bender and Ilkay Gündogan will also miss the friendly with injury.

Roman Weidenfeller seems to be Germany’s second-choice goalkeeper at the moment. The Dortmund player, who made his Germany debut in a 1-0 win over England in London in November 2013, has been called up again along first-choice keeper Manual Neuer (Bayern Munich) for the friendly against Chile.

Kevin Grosskreutz was delighted about the news. “I’m proud and happy to be included again,” said the all-rounder who has played himself into contention again with outstanding performances for BVB at both left back and left wing. Due to his versatility, determination and character, Grosskreutz is the all-around example of a team player. He played his last of three Germany caps in February 2011 in a 1-1 draw with Italy.

Borussia Dortmund will have a total of 17 players away on international duty following the game against Nuremberg.
