Borussia Dortmund will again surpass the one million attendance mark in the Bundesliga. The honour will go to fan number 33,995 coming through the gates of Signal Iduna Park on Saturday. It will be the 16th year in a row that BVB will break through the one million attendance barrier. The electronic counting system records everyone – and BVB’s head of ticketing, Mathias Naversnik, will look very closely as the millionth fan will be welcomed in an appropriate fashion before the game.

BVB do not only draw the biggest crowds in Germany, they are also once again the best supported team in European football with an average crowd of 80,500. Manchester United are second with 75,172.

Borussia Dortmund are also looking to break the 80,000 attendance mark per league game for a third consecutive year – which would be another record. But it’s going to be a close race. For the Revierderby against Schalke 04 in two weeks, 3,000 seats will have to be left empty for security reasons. Despite being called a sell-out, there are actually sometimes fluctuations in attendance when visiting teams fail to sell their entire ticket allocations. The home game against Nuremberg, for example, attracted a sell-out crowd of 80,545 (instead of 80,645) as 100 seats in the North Stand had to be left vacant.
