Berlin, Berlin, We’re on our way to Berlin… If there had been a prize ahead of the game for the best fans then Borussia would surely have been the winners. Tens of thousands supporters made their way to the German capital on Friday and Saturday ensuring that the city had a very definite Black n Yellow hue.

Naturally the busiest area was the Fanfest at the Breischeidplatz. Under clear blue skies some 10,000 Borussia fans cleared their throats in readiness for the game. All manner of songs featured, amongst them “Heja BVB”, “Let’s remove those Bayern Lederhosen” and “I’d never go to Bayern.” Passing Berliners commented that this was the most remarkable pre-final party they had seen.

The BVB party spread across the city. A boat on the river Spree bedecked in Black n Yellow transported some 300 fans each and every hour while at the famous Triumph column and on the Potsdamer Platz fans thronged, queuing around the block at the latter to buy momentoes from the BVB Fanshop.  The shop opened on May 6 and business has been so brisk that it will now remain open until the end of June, a month longer than anticipated.

For those who preferred to save themselves for the game by pursuing distractions like sight-seeing, BVB had laid on a Black n Yellow bus and rickshaws, and to help them find their way BVB had had printed some 50,000 city guides.

Many pathways and pavements had been “BVB” branded with logos such as “Real Love”, “Nice to be here again”, and “Because we love you so”. As they did a couple of years ago, advertising vans circled the city carrying messages like, “Nice to be here again” and “Sorry Berlin, it might get a bit loud later”.

A particular highlight for the many not fortunate enough to have a ticket for the game was the big screen set up in the "Sommergarten" at Berlin's exhibition grounds by the club and main sponsors Evonik which allowed some 14,000 fans to see the game together. Master of ceremonies here was sports commentator Hansi Küpper.
