Five Borussia Dortmund players have been included in Germany's final squad for the World Cup in Brazil. Roman Weidenfeller, Erik Durm, Mats Hummels, Kevin Grosskreutz and Marco Reus are among the 23 players selected by Germany coach Joachim Löw.

For Marcel Schmelzer, however, the dream of playing in this year’s World Cup is over. After suffering a knee injury in the German cup final against Bayern Munich two weeks ago, the Dortmund defender was only able to practice once with the rest of the German team. He has been told by Germany coach Löw that he will not be part of the final squad. “Hansi Flick and I have spoken to the players personally about the decision. All three are players who still have the chance to take part in several big tournaments in their careers.”
