After the derby is before the draw. Dortmund and their football fans are looking forward to Saturday. First there is the football and emotional highlight of the season, the 134th Revierderby against Schalke 04. Then, later in the evening, the draw for the last 16 round of the DFB Cup takes place. Borussia hope to get a home draw, preferably against a second-division side, to keep their dream of the final in Berlin alive.

Two of the best players fighting for the ball: Tamas Hajnal and Alexander Iashvili.

There are only 15 teams left in the draw which will take place on Saturday night at around 2330 CET as part of the ZDF programme "Aktuelles Sportstudio" on German television. "We don´t really want Bayern," said Hans-Joachim Watzke. The Munich outfit should rather play against Schalke and the other top Bundesliga clubs also should be drawn against each other.
The club chairman hopes that BVB get "a home game against a second-division side, because even for that game 50.000 to 60.000 fans would show up." That would also mean a lot of extra income, because a third game in this competition wasn´t included in the financial calculations for the 2009/2010 season. Besides half of the net attendance revenue, BVB will also get bonus money from the DFB in an amount of 493.750 euro, coming from TV revenues and perimeter advertising. "From now on we can earn some serious money in this competition," said Thomas Tress, the club´s head of finance.
BVB reached the round of the last 16 with a convincing performance. "But we played smart and for long spells didn´t give Karlsruhe many opportunities, but over the full 90 minutes we still should have defended a bit more convincing," said Jürgen Klopp about his team´s display. They not only put in a committed performance, but also always scored at the right time.
Mohamed Zidan, who was given the nod to play ahead of Nelson Valdez because he was needed as a "midfield link man", scored the opening goal after only two minutes. At half-time Karlsruhe brought on the good Iashvili to exert some pressure on the wings and probably also vowed to fight back from the 2-0 deficit, but it was to no avail as only five minutes after the restart Lucas Barrios scored his second goal of the night. "The third goal was the killer," said Mats Hummels. "Karlsruhe tried to claw their way back into the game after the interval, but after the third goal it was clear that we would cruise to victory."

Two goals: Lucas Barrios.

"If you consider how often teams are struggling in the DFB Cup, especially away at lower-league sides that are still good, then this was one of those rare, quiet evenings," said a visibly relieved Hans-Joachim Watzke, and added, "After our shaky start to the season we remained calm. This convincing victory is a sign that we are stable. "
It´s only small progress, which "we have to sell now, otherwise no one will see it," said Klopp, but the team is moving in the right direction again. One reason is that there movement was exceptional. BVB pressed early, deep in Karlsruhe´s half, and so forced them to make mistakes. Mats Hummels put in a great performance and Tamas Hajnal´s form is also improving. The Hungarian playmaker was involved in all three goals. He made a great run down the flank before BVB´s third goal. "Once in a while a playmaker has to go out to the flanks," said Klopp. Hajnal only failed to cap his performance with a goal, though he went close. His deflected free-kick hit the crossbar and later a shot by him was cleared off the line by Miller.
After his two goals in his first games for BVB, Lucas Barrios also finally ended a seven-week goal drought - by bagging a brace. When he put BVB 2-0 up, he checked first where the goalkeeper was before rounding him and coolly slotting the ball into the net, and he did not, like many strikers in this situation, panic and shoot too early. And his second goal was a perfect header.
"It was of course a relief for me and the entire team that we won. The victory is also a special kind of motivation for the game on Saturday. Despite my goal drought I stayed calm and I knew it would end - and it will also end in the Bundesliga. Let´s see what Saturday has in store for me. It would be even nicer if it ends in the Derby."
After all, Derby goals are twice as important. At least.
