In the post-match press conference, more questions were asked about what happened before than during the game. "It was accepted that people could get hurt," said Schalke coach Jens Keller, and Jürgen Klopp clearly distanced himself from these "fans", saying, "At this moment, we are ashamed."

Jürgen Klopp on the game: "It was a super intense game in which we had the better start. We got well into the game, defended the way we wanted to and took the lead after a great move. Then the game became more open, we gave them space and Schalke used it well. Fortunately, Roman saved a penalty and we scored a second right after the break with a great goal. Schalke then made some changes. Max Meyer made a real impact and moved well between the lines. It got frantic, and even more intense. Both sides tried everything, and then we scored from a sensational counter attack."

... on the incidents: "We won 3-1, and we still and rightly so have to talk about this incident before the game. Those were unsightly images, to put it mildly. At this moment, we are ashamed. I´m often proud of our fans, but these were in the truest sense of the word harassing. We still won the game, but not because of it. There are some individuals who shouldn´t be given the feeling that they are part of it. We must address it. It must be sanctioned."

Jens Keller: "We are disappointed. Dortmund had a better start to the game. We made two mistakes before the first goal and had to chase the game, but could have come back into it through the penalty. It would have given us the chance to drop deeper again. We conceded the second goal from nowhere. The introduction of Meyer gave us a boost, but then we made a mistake. The third goal 20 minutes from time broke our spirits."
