Herbert Fandel To Again Supervise Bielefeld vs. BVB
Herbert Fandel will supervise the Bundesliga match between Arminia Bielefeld and Borussia Dortmund at the SchücoArena on Saturday. It the 37th time the 44-year old will officiate a BVB match. Borussia´s record under Fandel in the Bundesliga is positive with 16 wins, 9 draws and 10 defeats. Sideline assistants will be Carsten Kadach and Volker Wezel. Fourth official is Frank Willenborg.
The 44-year old Fandel is married with two children. He hails from Kyllburg (Rheinland) and has been a FIFA referee since 1998. He has officiated 24 international matches and 50 European Cup ties. Fandel was shortlisted on the WC 2006 referee roster and hoped to join Markus Merk as the second German referee to take part in the World Cup. While he did not make it, he was allowed to whistle the 2006 UEFA Cup Final and the 2007 Champions League Final. He was also nominated for the 2008 European Championship Tournament.
Fandel runs a music school and was named "Germany´s Referee of the Year" in 2000/2001 and again in 2004/2005. During the current season, he has visited Dortmund four times - for the 3-0 victory against Cottbus, the 3-0 loss against HSV, the 6-1 win over Bielefeld and the 2-1 German Cup win over Werder Bremen.
