For the first time in eight years, Borussia Dortmund have won a home game on the first day of the season. The last time it happened, BVB finished the season as Bundesliga champions. It´s almost a novelty for BVB to win an opening game. In 43 seasons Borussia only came out victorious on 11 occasions - but they have won now two in a row under Jürgen Klopp.

Lucas Barrios made a good impression, but missed a sitter with his head.

It was a well-deserved win for the hosts, who dominated Cologne for 90 minutes and who, after squandering a hatful of chances, needed an own goal to secure victory. The stats also confirmed BVB´s dominance (22-7 shots on goal, 16-1 corners).
BVB´s new striker Lucas Barrios made a good impression (four shots on goal), but squandered a sitter with his head at the start of the second half. Mondragon, who saved 10 shots and also saved his side from a heavier loss, was the only Cologne player to impress (Weidenfeller did not make one save).
Last season BVB scored every third of their goals from a set piece. And they did it again today - this time the goal came after a Hajnal free-kick.
For the first time since 28 February, Marcel Schmelzer earned himself a place in the starting line-up - by replacing the injured Dede.
Zvonimir Soldo is the 11th Cologne coach in a row who failed to register a win at BVB.
Cologne also conceded their last own goal in Dortmund. In last season´s 3-1 defeat it was Geromel who found his own net. (Impire Stats).
