First goal for BVB: new signing Dimitar Rangelov.

Florian Kringe deputised as captain in the first half. And in this first half the visitors showed why they went into the game as clear favourites.
BVB needed only three minutes to create their first chance when a Valdez header from a fine Kringe cross just went wide of the right post. Inside a minute Valdez had another opportunity to put Borussia in front when he found himself alone in front of Knapke, but the Rheine goalkeeper denied him with a fine save with his feet.
Borussia Dortmund controlled the rhythm and pace of the game and tried to make use of the flanks. And it didn´t take long before they found the net. After a fine cross from Hajnal, Rangelov climbed higher than his two markers to head the visitors in front. The spell was broken and only two minutes later Valdez doubled the lead for BVB. After wasting three chances early on, he finally scored after being set up by Hajnal. After Kubu fired home from a tight angle in the 20th minute to make it 3-0, BVB sat back a bit and allowed Rheine to get into the game and create some opportunities themselves.
They went close with a free-kick and on two occasions Weidenfeller had his hands full dealing with high crosses. And at the stroke of half-time, Rheine were rewarded for their brave efforts. A fine pass through the BVB back line found the unmarked Isuf Asllani and much to the joy of the home supporters the Rheine striker made no mistake and scored a consolation goal for the hosts, giving Weidenfeller no chance.
The pace of the game slowed down considerably after the interval. After Sadrijaj had a chance right after the restart, it took until the 75th minute before Feulner was able to create another opening inside the box, but his effort posed no real threat. Team-mate Alex Frei was more ruthless in the 82nd minute. The BVB forward stretched the lead to 4-1, making the most of a pass from Tinga and some dismal Rheine defending to send the ball past Kapke. Three minutes later Feulner completed the rout to make it 5-1.
