A crowd of around 250 spectators provided the perfect backdrop for a series of international blind football matches which got underway on Tuesday evening. In the first of the friendly encounters, the teams representing Germany and Russia played out a 1-1 draw. Taime Kuttig from Marburg was the scorer of the all-important goal for Germany.

BVB club president Dr. Reinhard Rauball inaugurated the two-day event at the opening match on Tuesday evening. ''It's a real honour for us here at Borussia Dortmund to be able to host these blind football matches. I would be delighted to see other clubs get involved in blind sport, and I will strive to make this happen.''

Three Borussia Dortmund players are involved in the series of international friendly matches. Outfield players Hasan Altunbas and Jonas Fuhrmann, as well as goalkeeper Nick Leidecker, are part of the Germany squad for the matches against Russia.

The second friendly match between Germany and Russia will take place today at 14:00 CET at the Borussia Dortmund facility for blind football in Kirchderne. The Russian side are then scheduled to play a friendly match against the Borussia Dortmund blind football team.
