Borussia Dortmund midfielder Tamas Hajnal will undergo surgery on his left ankle in Antwerpen (Belgium) on Thursday to repair a torn ligament. The specialist, whom the 28-year-old Hungarian consulted on Tuesday and who will also perform the surgery, confirmed the diagnosis made by BVB medic Dr Markus Braun.

Both doctors agree that the injury can not be treated conservatively and that surgery is inevitable. Dr Braun will accompany Tamas Hajnal to the hospital in Antwerpen on Thursday. According to the club medic, the Hungarian international will likely miss the rest of the first half of the season.

For Tamas Hajnal – here in last season’s game against Frankfurt (4-0) in which he was involved in all four goals – the first half of the season is over.
