Thomas Tuchel was asked two questions at the press conference: one was about the match in Stuttgart while the other again focused on the Liverpool match. "The team deserve a big compliment. Once again it was an absolute team performance."

Thomas Tuchel on the match in Stuttgart:
"We knew how strong VfB are at set-pieces and offensive switch-play. For that reason we had to play in a structured away, controlling the ball and counter-attacks. We succeeded for long periods. The first half was an open game, from our point of view it was too open at times. Then we became surer in our passing game and were able to quickly bypass the midfield. The team deserves a big compliment. We made a few changes but still produced another absolutely top team performance in this Thursday – Sunday – Wednesday – Saturday rhythm."

...on the after-effects of the match in Liverpool:
"The team was very self-critical following this defeat, very honest and very harsh on themselves. We analysed the content of the match and allowed ourselves to admit that such defeats are part of sport and that it has happened to all teams in all types of sport. Such experiences can help you to grow. After conducting this analysis we were able to place the focus on Hamburg, Berlin and Stuttgart and put in the performances that we needed." (br)
