Borussia Dortmund have the opportunity to qualify for the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League for the first time since 2017. Having beaten Sevilla away from home in the first leg three weeks ago, they are now preparing for the return fixture in Dortmund on Tuesday evening (kick-off at 21:00 CET).

"It would make every one of us proud to reach the quarter-finals. It's enough of an incentive to know that our journey in the Champions League may continue," said team captain Marco Reus, before adding: "We have a huge game ahead of us tomorrow and we want to go through."

The last time Borussia reached the UEFA Champions League last eight was in 2016/17, when they were eliminated by AS Monaco amid highly difficult circumstances off the pitch. Having been knocked out in the group stages in the 2017/18 campaign, the Black & Yellows were then eliminated in the last 16 by Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain in 2019 and 2020 respectively. "We will need two good performances to reach the next round. We have seen in recent years that one good performance is not enough," said head coach Edin Terzic.

Opponents Sevilla have lost each of their last three matches, following up two defeats to Barcelona with a loss to Elche on Saturday, but Terzic still expects "a very good Sevilla. They already stated after the first leg that they want to show a different side to themselves in Dortmund. We'll be prepared for that."

Nothing but a win will suffice for the Spaniards. "But that will not change the fact that we want to win the match ourselves and that we want to show our football on the pitch," explained Reus. "We're expecting ourselves to perform the way we did in Seville, with a healthy aggression."

Terzic will be without Jadon Sancho, who will not be available in the coming weeks. However, the picture looks rosier for Raphael Guerreiro and Giovanni Reyna. "We aren't giving up hope and will see in training tomorrow whether they're ready." Erling Haaland, who had to be substituted off and receive treatment after taking a knock to his Achilles tendon against Bayern, completed the final training session. "He's doing well. The knock is not impacting him. We're expecting him to play a part tomorrow," said Terzic. Thorgan Hazard, who returned to the starting XI on Saturday after a lengthy spell out with injury and therefore only completed a running session on Monday, is available to play as well.
