Thanks to a masterclass between the 24th and 38th minutes – five goals were scored in that 14-minute spell – Borussia Dortmund strolled to a comfortable win against Wolfsburg and were once again clinical in front of goal: based on "xGoals" (goals expected based on the quality of chances), the game should have ended in a narrow 2.64-2.12 victory.

Scoring debut at 17: After Peter Knäbel (Bochum) and Ralf Augustin (also Dortmund), Tom Rothe is only the third 17-year-old to score on his debut; he was around five months younger that his two predecessors. Rothe is the fourth-youngest scorer in Bundesliga history (17 years and 169 days). The only players younger than him when they scored their first goal were Youssoufa Moukoko, Florian Wirtz (Leverkusen) and Nuri Sahin (BVB).

Many wins: Borussia racked up their 20th win of the Bundesliga campaign and have now won as many games as they did in the entirety of last season.

Many goals: Dortmund have already claimed a 6-0 victory against Mönchengladbach this season. The last time BVB scored more than six goals in a game was against Nuremberg in September 2018 (7-0).

In-form: Julian Brandt scored two goals in Stuttgart last week and claimed two assists today.

Half-time lead: The biggest half-time lead BVB have ever had was 6-0 in Schalke in September 1964 (final score: 6-2). Borussia have never led by a margin of more than 5-0 at the break on home turf. It has only happened once previously – against Blau-Weiß Berlin in September 1986.

Top provider: Marco Reus set up the goals for 3-0 and 4-0. In total, the captain has 10 assists this season – the most of any BVB player.

Dangerous defenders: Following the goals by Manuel Akanji and Emre Can, BVB now have 10 goals scored by defenders. Only Stuttgart can match that tally.

Many goalscorers: Tom Rothe and Manuel Akanji became the 17th and 18th different goalscorers this season – a league high.

Wolfsburg again: Akanji scored his first goal of the season. His last goal before that came more than a year ago – also at home to Wolfsburg (January 2021).
