Prior to the match against Bayern Munich, BVB star Marco Reus was honoured for reaching 400 competitive matches in Black & Yellow. He achieved this milestone with an appearance in the starting XI of the headline match. Hans-Joachim Watzke, Carsten Cramer and Sebastian Kehl presented the long-serving BVB player with a bouquet of flowers and a jersey bearing the number 400.

This milestone "shows Marco Reus' importance not only this season, but in recent years too," said coach Edin Terzic on Friday. The fans in the stands feted the attacking player with prolonged applause and chants.

Marco Reus is the face and figurehead of Borussia Dortmund. The now 34-year-old returned to his boyhood club from Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2012 and quickly established himself as a mainstay in the team. The Dortmund native took over the captaincy in the 2018/19 season, which he relinquished this summer after five years. Reus won the DFB-Pokal with BVB in 2017 and 2021. He entered his 15th Bundesliga season this August. The attacking midfielder has scored 165 goals for BVB, surpassed only by club legend Adi Preissler.

Reus currently ranks sixth on the list of all-time BVB appearances, with 400 games for the club. The list is headed by Michael Zorc (572 appearances) ahead of Mats Hummels (481st appearance against Munich), Roman Weidenfeller (453), Stefan Reuter (421) and Lars Ricken (407). (cr)
